The National Investment Bank (NIB) PLC has announced a GH¢1 million commitment to support a housing redevelopment project for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) at Burma Camp. This contribution, designated as seed funding, marks a significant milestone in the long-standing institutional relationship between the state-owned bank and the military. The initiative is part of a broader strategic effort to address the accommodation challenges facing service members while deepening the financial ties between the two institutions. Managing Director of NIB, Chief Dr. Doliwura Zakaria, emphasized during a recent ceremony that this partnership is central to the bank's mission. Beyond the financial donation, NIB has revealed plans to establish a dedicated branch within Burma Camp to improve banking access and financial inclusion for military personnel. This move is expected to streamline financial services for the GAF community, providing them with tailored banking solutions directly on-site. Dr. Zakaria also noted that NIB is currently undergoing significant reforms under government guidance, including initiatives to strengthen its capital base through the floating of shares and other financial restructuring measures. Chief of Defence Staff, William Agyapong, expressed deep gratitude for the bank's support, highlighting that housing remains a critical priority for the military command. The redevelopment at Burma Camp is a component of an ambitious national goal to construct 10,000 housing units for security personnel across the country. Specifically, the Burma Camp phase aims to deliver 250 units to help alleviate the current housing deficit. The CDS encouraged other corporate entities to follow NIB's lead in supporting national security infrastructure. A formal launch and fundraising event for the housing project is scheduled for April 18, 2026, which will serve as a platform to attract further investment and institutional support. The collaboration between NIB and the Ghana Armed Forces reflects a growing trend of public-sector institutions partnering to address infrastructure gaps. As NIB continues its reform process to ensure long-term sustainability, its involvement in high-impact social projects like the Burma Camp housing scheme reinforces its role as a key player in Ghana’s national development agenda.

Dr. Samuel Kusi Urges Strategic Shift to Harness Diaspora Expertise and Investment for Ghana’s Economic Transformation

Dr. Samuel Kusi, an Assistant Professor at the University of Bradford, has called for a strategic shift in how Ghana engages with its diaspora, advocating for a move beyond traditional remittances toward the integration of professional expertise. Speaking in an interview with the Daily Graphic, Dr. Kusi argued that while financial transfers are beneficial, the nation's sustainable economic growth depends on leveraging the vast intellectual and investment capabilities of Ghanaians living abroad. This vision for a more integrated economic partnership is set to take center stage at the upcoming Ghana-Yorkshire Trade, Investment and Partnership Summit (GYTIPS 2026). The GYTIPS 2026 summit is being designed as a critical platform to bridge the business communities of Ghana and the United Kingdom. According to Dr. Kusi, the event will convene a diverse array of stakeholders, including government officials, industry leaders, and innovators from both regions. The primary objective is to foster deep-seated business connections that go beyond superficial transactions, focusing instead on long-term partnerships that can catalyze entrepreneurship and technological advancement within the Ghanaian economy. Dr. Kusi emphasized that the Ghanaian diaspora represents a significant, yet underutilized, reservoir of knowledge and capital. By encouraging Ghanaians in the UK and elsewhere to contribute their global experience in innovation and management, the country can accelerate its development agenda. He believes that creating structured frameworks like the Yorkshire summit will provide the necessary confidence for these professionals to invest in local sectors, thereby creating jobs and modernizing the industrial landscape. As Ghana looks toward the future, the focus on diaspora-led investment signals a proactive approach to national development and economic resilience. The successful execution of initiatives like GYTIPS 2026 could provide a template for how the country engages its global citizens as partners in progress rather than just sources of capital. By transitioning from a model of financial dependency to one of mutual partnership and knowledge exchange, Ghana aims to build a more robust and self-sustaining economic future.

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa Sets 2026 Deadline for Completion of Private-Funded VIP Lounge at Accra International Airport

Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that a new, ultramodern VIP Lounge at the Accra International Airport is on track for completion and official handover by the end of 2026. This project is positioned as a critical upgrade to Ghana's premier aviation gateway, aimed at providing world-class facilities for diplomatic missions, business executives, and high-profile visitors. The announcement highlights a significant step in the government's efforts to modernize national infrastructure through strategic collaborations that enhance the country's international standing. A key feature of the project, as emphasized by Minister Ablakwa, is its unique financing structure. The lounge is being fully funded by the private sector, a move that distinguishes it from traditional state-led infrastructure projects. By opting for this model, the development does not rely on public funds or fall under the standard public procurement processes. The Minister pointed to this as a successful demonstration of how private-sector partnerships can be leveraged to deliver essential services and high-end infrastructure without placing an additional strain on the national treasury. The facility itself is expected to set new standards for luxury and efficiency at Kotoka International Airport. Although specific architectural details remain under wraps, the "ultramodern" classification implies the integration of advanced technology, high-speed connectivity, and premium hospitality services. This development is seen as a strategic move to boost Ghana’s competitiveness as a regional hub for tourism and international commerce, ensuring that the first point of contact for influential travelers reflects the country's economic aspirations. As the 2026 deadline approaches, the successful delivery of this VIP Lounge will likely serve as a benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the transport sector. The emphasis on private-sector leadership suggests a growing trend in the Mahama administration's approach to capital-intensive developments. Stakeholders in the aviation and business communities have expressed optimism that such facilities will not only improve the traveler experience but also signal to the global community that Ghana is open for high-value investment and diplomatic engagement.

Accra to Host 5th International Customer Service Summit Focusing on Culture and AI Return on Investment

Accra is set to become the focal point of service excellence as it hosts the fifth edition of the International Customer Service Summit (ICUSS) on October 2, 2026. Taking place at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel, this milestone event marks the official launch of Customer Service Week for both Ghana and the wider African continent. Founded by Priscilla M. Wellington, the summit has established itself as a premier platform for addressing the evolving dynamics of service delivery and organizational performance in an increasingly competitive global market. This year’s summit centers on the timely theme, "Beyond Technology: Why Culture and Attitude Decide AI ROI." As businesses across Africa rapidly integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation into their operations, the ICUSS aims to provide a critical counter-narrative: that technology alone cannot guarantee a return on investment without a foundational service culture. The event is designed to equip African leaders with actionable insights and strategic frameworks, positioning organizational culture as a sustainable competitive advantage that complements, rather than is replaced by, digital transformation. Founder Priscilla M. Wellington emphasizes that service must be viewed as a key cultural discipline rather than a mere departmental function for organizations to thrive. By bringing together senior leaders and teams from diverse sectors, the summit facilitates a collaborative environment where attendees can explore how mindset and attitude influence the success of technological deployments. Supported by various industry partners, the initiative underscores the necessity of human-centric values in the era of automation, ensuring that African enterprises remain resilient and customer-focused. Registration for the 5th International Customer Service Summit is currently open to corporate executives, management teams, and service professionals seeking to refine their organizational strategies. As the opening act for Customer Service Week 2026, the summit serves as a call to action for both the private and public sectors to prioritize service excellence as a primary driver for economic growth. Participants can expect a day of high-level networking and knowledge sharing that promises to reshape the landscape of customer engagement across the continent.

Minister Governs Kwame Agbodza Pledges Wa-Tumu-Bolga Road Upgrade to Revitalize Agriculture and Regional Trade

The Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has underscored the strategic importance of the Wa-Tumu-Bolgatanga road corridor, asserting that its completion is vital for unlocking the economic potential of the Upper West Region. The Minister reaffirmed the current administration's commitment to delivering key infrastructure projects within its four-year mandate, positioning the road upgrade as a catalyst for the enhanced movement of goods and people across the northern belt. This initiative is expected to address long-standing transportation bottlenecks that have historically hampered the region's development and commercial growth. According to the Minister, the improved road connectivity is specifically designed to bolster the agricultural sector and stimulate trade by providing farmers with more reliable access to regional markets. Despite facing financial constraints attributed to the fiscal landscape inherited from previous administrations, the government remains focused on prioritizing these essential corridors. The project aims not only to support established businesses but also to create fresh economic opportunities for the youth, who stand to benefit from the increased commerce and localized development expected to follow the road’s completion. Technical reports from the field indicate significant progress on the ground, with Regional Highways Engineer Livistone Damali confirming that construction is currently active across nearly all sections of the corridor. Local leadership, including Sissala East MP Mohammed Issah Bataglia, has expressed strong optimism regarding the project’s trajectory. These leaders believe the upgrade will finally resolve persistent infrastructure challenges that have plagued the area for decades. By integrating these northern hubs more effectively into the national economy, the government intends to foster a more inclusive business environment that leverages the region's unique agricultural strengths.
