Two senior police officers have donated a bicycle and stationery to Bethel Amedza, a junior high school student in the Volta Region, to support her education. Superintendent Dr. Foster Nanewortor and Cadet Officer Alice Lawson presented the items to ease the 7-kilometre daily walk the student undertakes to reach her school. The gesture is also aimed at alleviating the financial burden on her family and encouraging her to maintain her high academic standards.
The donation follows Bethel's impressive performance in several academic competitions, where she demonstrated exceptional brilliance despite the logistical challenges of her daily commute. Dr. Nanewortor emphasized that such support is vital to inspire students who show promise and dedication to their studies. He called on the wider community and other philanthropists to identify and assist hardworking students who lack the necessary resources to excel in their academic pursuits.
During the presentation, the school's headmaster, Eric Videdu, expressed gratitude for the officers' generosity and highlighted the impact the bicycle would have on Bethel’s attendance and punctuality. He used the occasion to appeal for further public assistance, specifically for the completion of a stalled library project at the school. Videdu noted that a functional library is essential to providing all students with a conducive environment for learning and research.
