Media entrepreneur NanaYaw Wiredu has addressed a recent social media controversy involving Ghanaian musician Mr Drew, asserting that the artist’s recent outburst during an X Space session would not have occurred under professional supervision. Wiredu observed that the heated exchange, which featured an escalation into verbal insults, highlights a critical need for structured media training and professional guidance for Ghanaian entertainers.
The incident originated during a live discussion on X Space when Mr Drew confronted a participant for addressing him informally. The musician insisted on being accorded respect due to his age and status, but the disagreement quickly deteriorated into a trade of insults. Wiredu pointed out that while producing hit songs is a fundamental part of the industry, the capacity to manage public interactions with composure is equally vital for sustaining a successful career.
According to Wiredu, an artist's brand is significantly impacted by how they conduct themselves in public forums. He suggested that many of these public relations challenges are avoidable if artists receive proper coaching on how to handle provocation or informal interactions. He emphasized that professional handlers have a responsibility to ensure their clients are adequately prepared for the nuances of public engagement, particularly in unscripted environments like live social media audio rooms.
To address these gaps in the industry, Wiredu announced the introduction of a free online Music Master Series. The program is intended to help emerging entertainment executives and artists understand the business side of music, including the importance of reputation management. Through this initiative, Wiredu hopes to foster a more professional environment where public interactions enhance rather than detract from an artist's career.
