The Ghana Police Service has apprehended and brought before the court three individuals implicated in the kidnapping and murder of 33-year-old mobile phone dealer Nana Yaw Kyere, also known as 'Dinero' or 'Terry.' The suspects—Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams, and Josiah Obodai—were arrested by the Police Missing Persons Unit following an intensive investigation into Kyere's disappearance. The victim, a well-known dealer at Accra's Kwame Nkrumah Circle, was reported missing on September 22, 2026, after he failed to return home from a trip on September 19. His partially burnt remains were later discovered in a bush near Community 18 along the Tema Motorway.
Preliminary investigations reveal a chilling sequence of events where Kyere was allegedly lured to a residence in Teshie Agbleza. Police reports indicate that Sarah Osei Adams enticed the victim to the home of Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, who was reportedly posing as a soldier. Once there, a confrontation ensued, during which Tefe allegedly attacked Kyere, inflicting the injuries that led to his death. Following the fatal assault, the suspects are believed to have transported the body to the motorway, where they set it ablaze in an attempt to destroy evidence. The brutal nature of the crime has drawn widespread condemnation, including from Prophet Kofi Oduro of Alabaster International Ministry, who publicly offered condolences to the victim's family.
A significant breakthrough in the case occurred when investigators recovered Kyere's iPhone 12, which had been sold shortly after the murder. Philip Tefe allegedly sold the high-end device for a mere GH¢100 to Sunday Omeje, who was subsequently detained for purchasing stolen property. This transaction provided crucial evidence linking the suspects to the victim's belongings. Police have noted that the suspects have confessed to various degrees of involvement in the kidnapping, the fatal confrontation, and the disposal of the body, though investigations continue to determine if other accomplices were involved.
The three primary suspects appeared before the Teshie District Court in early October 2026, where they were charged with kidnapping and murder. The court has remanded the trio into custody as the prosecution works to finalize the case file and gather further forensic details. The proceedings have been adjourned until October 16, 2026. The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to remain calm while they pursue all leads to ensure a comprehensive prosecution and justice for the family of Nana Yaw Kyere.
