Nana Afua Achiaa, an 81-year-old resident of Achiase in the Ashanti Region, has died following a severe attack by a swarm of bees. The incident occurred on October 28, 2026, when the elderly woman was reportedly overwhelmed by the insects. Although she was rushed to a nearby medical facility for emergency treatment, healthcare professionals pronounced her dead on arrival, marking a tragic end to a situation that has reportedly caused mounting tension in the community.
The attack was described as exceptionally intense, preventing bystanders and community members from mounting a successful rescue operation. Witnesses noted that the severity of the swarm made it nearly impossible to reach Nana Afua Achiaa without risking further casualties, leaving residents to watch helplessly as the event unfolded. Her daughter, Maa Abena, expressed profound distress over the sudden and painful loss, highlighting the vulnerability of the elderly to such environmental hazards when they occur within residential areas.
This fatal incident has brought renewed attention to long-standing concerns regarding persistent bee colonies that have inhabited parts of Achiase for over a year. In response to the tragedy, the Queen Mother of Achiase, Nana Serwaa Boatemaa, has formally called on local authorities and relevant agencies to intervene. She emphasized that the permanent removal of these colonies is essential to ensure the safety of other residents and to prevent similar occurrences in the future, as fear remains high among the local population.
