The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has officially commenced the implementation of mandatory pre-screening checks conducted by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) at the Accra International Airport. Effective from October 2, these new measures are situated within the airport’s Departure Hall and are designed to bolster national security and curb the trafficking of illicit substances. Under the new protocols, every passenger departing from the facility must have their luggage thoroughly screened using advanced scanning technology and specialized sniffer dogs before they are permitted to proceed to the check-in counters. To ensure a seamless transition and minimize potential delays caused by the additional security layers, GACL has issued a strong advisory for all travelers to arrive at the airport at least three hours prior to their scheduled flight times. This window is intended to provide sufficient time for passengers to complete both the new NACOC pre-screening and the standard check-in and security procedures. Furthermore, in a significant shift in operational policy, access to the Departure Hall is now strictly restricted to traveling passengers only. Family members, friends, and other non-travelers who previously accompanied passengers into the hall will no longer be granted entry, a move aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing the efficiency of the security teams. GACL management expressed their appreciation for the patience and cooperation of the traveling public as these essential safety measures are integrated into daily operations. The collaboration between the airport authorities and the Narcotics Control Commission represents a coordinated effort to maintain the integrity of Ghana’s primary international gateway. By tightening surveillance and screening at the point of departure, officials aim to deter criminal activity while ensuring that the airport remains compliant with international aviation security standards. Travelers are encouraged to comply with all directives from security personnel to facilitate a safe and orderly environment for all airport users.
