Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak has announced that the government will freeze new applications for recruitment into Ghana’s security services for the 2027 calendar year. The decision, which follows directives from President John Mahama, is intended to address a significant backlog of previously qualified candidates. By halting new applications, the Ministry of the Interior aims to ensure that those who have already passed the rigorous selection process in earlier cycles are finally inducted into training.
Under this new directive, the official recruitment portal will remain closed to any new applicants throughout the year. The government’s primary focus will be on enlisting and training individuals who successfully met all eligibility requirements during previous recruitment exercises but were unable to secure spots due to capacity constraints. This approach is designed to clear the existing list of waiting candidates before the services open up to the general public again.
Minister Muntaka Mubarak emphasised that the temporary suspension is a strategic move to manage the personnel needs and training infrastructure of the various security agencies. The policy ensures that candidates who have already invested time and resources into the application process are not overlooked. The Ministry has indicated that regular recruitment cycles will resume once the current backlog has been successfully cleared and the security services are positioned to accommodate a new cohort of recruits.
