MTN Ghana has presented scholarships to 500 individuals, including both students and teachers, who are pursuing studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) as well as vocational programs. The grants were issued under the MTN Bright Scholarship Scheme during a ceremony in Accra. This initiative forms part of the telecommunications company’s 30th-anniversary celebrations and is designed to alleviate financial barriers that often prevent talented individuals from accessing higher education and specialized training.
During the event, MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett highlighted that the company has been committed to human resource development since the scholarship scheme was first launched in 2018. He noted that the selection of 500 beneficiaries this year reflects an expansion of their efforts to support the nation’s educational goals. The scholarship package typically covers tuition fees, accommodation, and a stipend, allowing recipients to focus on their academic and professional development without the burden of financial constraints.
The Deputy Minister of Education attended the ceremony and praised the partnership between the government and the private sector. The Minister emphasized that such initiatives are vital for enhancing educational access and ensuring that the workforce is equipped with technical and vocational skills. In addition to the scholarship awards, Mr. Blewett announced that MTN Ghana would provide support for a new Ministry of Education hotline dedicated to reporting abuses within schools, further demonstrating the company’s commitment to a safe and productive learning environment.
By including teachers in the scholarship scheme, MTN Ghana aims to improve the quality of instruction in technical fields, creating a sustainable impact on the education sector. The program is expected to empower the next generation of innovators and technicians while providing educators with the resources they need to advance their own skills and knowledge base.
