Monrovia, Liberia, is set to host the FIBA Africa Zone 3 qualifiers for the African Women’s Basketball League (AWBL) from November 2 to 9, 2026. Six elite basketball clubs from across the West African sub-region will converge on the Liberian capital to compete for two coveted spots in the continental finals. This qualification tournament marks a significant sporting milestone for Liberia as it prepares to welcome top-tier regional talent and showcase its capacity to host major international fixtures.
The tournament will feature a diverse field of clubs representing nations including Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Nigeria. Specifically, the roster includes the defending champions, Friends of Basketball Association from Côte d'Ivoire, alongside two prominent Nigerian sides, Mountain of Fire Ministries and First Bank Basketball Club. The host nation, Liberia, will be represented by Flames Basketball Club and D’Rockers Basketball Club. These teams have already begun intensifying their preparations, with several clubs reportedly bolstering their rosters to ensure they remain competitive in the quest for a place in Cairo.
The Organizing Committee, in collaboration with the Liberia Basketball Association (LBA), is currently spearheading preparations to ensure the event meets international standards. Efforts are focused on facility readiness and logistical arrangements to accommodate visiting delegations and fans throughout the week-long competition. The stakes remain high, as the two top-performing clubs from this zone will earn the right to represent the region at the AWBL continental finals, which are scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, in December 2026.
