The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with DMT Collateral Management Limited to construct a 21,000-tonne grain storage facility in Wa, located in the Upper West Region. This project, formalized on November 3, 2026, is a strategic component of the government’s Feed Ghana Programme. The initiative aims to significantly enhance the country's grain storage capacity and provide a reliable solution to the persistent challenge of post-harvest losses faced by local farmers.
The project represents a substantial investment of approximately €9.8 million and is expected to be fully operational by August 2027. Once completed, the facility will serve as a national Food Security Hub, particularly during periods of agricultural emergency. A standout feature of the facility is the implementation of an emergency grain reserve system known as the "Hospital Bin." This system is designed to safeguard essential grain stocks, ensuring that the nation can respond effectively to food shortages or price fluctuations.
Beyond the infrastructure, the partnership between MoFA and DMT Collateral Management includes a commitment to capacity building. The project will provide comprehensive training opportunities for local personnel, ensuring they are skilled in managing modern storage technologies and collateral management systems. By integrating advanced technology with local expertise, the government intends to build a more resilient agricultural sector that supports smallholder farmers and secures the national food supply chain for years to come.
