Accra Mayor Michael Kpakpo Allotey has issued a formal directive to mechanic workshop operators situated along the Dadeban Loop, ordering the immediate removal of all parked vehicles from the public street. The instruction is a critical precursor to the commencement of scheduled road construction works in the industrial and commercial enclave. By clearing the thoroughfare, the Mayor aims to eliminate physical obstructions that would otherwise impede the movement of heavy machinery and construction crews.
The directive addresses a long-standing issue in the area, where the spillover of vehicles from local mechanic shops has often restricted traffic flow. Mayor Allotey highlighted that the success of the upcoming infrastructure project depends on the cooperation of the business community at Dadeban Loop. The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is prioritizing the modernization of this route to improve drainage and road surface quality, which are essential for the local economy. The Mayor stressed that any delay in clearing the site would lead to a corresponding delay in the project timeline, which the city is keen to avoid.
Workshop operators have been urged to comply with the order promptly to prevent the need for forced removals or other enforcement measures. This initiative forms part of a broader urban renewal strategy under the Mayor's leadership, aimed at decongesting key traffic corridors and ensuring that public infrastructure projects are delivered without unnecessary bureaucratic or physical hurdles. As the construction date approaches, the AMA is expected to monitor the area closely to ensure the street remains clear for the engineering teams to begin their work.
