Mfantsipim School celebrated its landmark 150th anniversary with a Sesquicentennial Awards and Fundraising Dinner, honoring the significant contributions of distinguished alumni and corporate partners. The event served as a major milestone for the institution, which was founded in 1876, and brought together a high-profile audience including traditional leaders, government officials, and the "Old Boys" community (MOBA). The gala was designed not only to celebrate the school's storied history but also to mobilize resources for its future development through a series of prestigious awards and a live fundraising auction.
Among the primary honorees was The Multimedia Group Limited, which received a Special Award for its longstanding partnership and support of the school’s legacy. Nana Banyin Addo, the Head of Joy Business, highlighted the deep-rooted connection between the two institutions, noting that many of the media group's leaders, including its CEO, are proud alumni. Other major accolades included the Partner of Impact Award, presented to Alex Apau Dadey, and an award for Arts and Cultural Excellence given to George Quaye. The school also recognized its internal community by presenting Solomon Kweku Afful with the Outstanding Teaching Staff award.
The dinner was attended by several notable guests, including the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, and traditional rulers such as the Osu Mantse, Teteete Nii Nortey Owuo IV, and the Okuapemhene, Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III. Teteete Nii Nortey Owuo IV, an alumnus himself, encouraged his fellow old boys to stay engaged with the anniversary celebrations. The evening’s festivities were rounded out by a live auction of unique items and performances from popular artists Sefa and Efya, all aimed at supporting the school's long-term infrastructure and educational goals.
This sesquicentennial celebration underscores Mfantsipim School's enduring influence on Ghana’s educational and national landscape. By honoring the achievements of its alumni and securing commitments from corporate partners, the school aims to sustain its reputation for excellence into the next century. The funds raised during the gala are expected to support critical development projects that will ensure the school continues to produce leaders for the country and the world.
