The Mfantsipim Old Boys Association (MOBA) has officially launched a 14-track musical anthology to celebrate the upcoming 150th anniversary of Mfantsipim School. Titled the "Mfantsipim Sesquicentennial Anthology," the project is designed to preserve the institution's rich musical heritage while raising funds for future development projects. This milestone release comes as the school prepares for its sesquicentennial celebrations, marking a century and a half of educational excellence since its founding in Cape Coast.
The anthology features a diverse collection of historic hymns, traditional anthems, and contemporary compositions that have defined the school's identity over the decades. Notably, the album includes multiple arrangements of the iconic school hymn, "For All the Saints," and the official school anthem, "Dwin Hwɛ Kan." It also archives historically significant pieces originally composed for previous milestones, such as the school's centenary celebrations, ensuring these works are preserved for future generations of students and alumni.
Key figures in the production of the anthology include prominent lawyer Ace Anan Ankomah and sound engineer Herbert Ebenezer Crassie. Their collaboration, alongside other dedicated alumni, highlights the active involvement of the Mfantsipim Old Boys Association in supporting their alma mater through creative and cultural initiatives. To reach a global audience, accompanying music videos for several tracks have already been released on the official MOBA YouTube channel, showcasing the visual and auditory history of the school.
Beyond its cultural and commemorative value, the album serves as a strategic fundraising tool for the school's future. All proceeds from the sales of the anthology are earmarked for the school's endowment fund and various infrastructure initiatives planned for the 150th-anniversary celebration. By blending tradition with modern production, the association aims to strengthen the bond among its global alumni network while securing the financial resources necessary to maintain Mfantsipim’s legacy as a premier educational institution.
