MC Kabutey attributes career success to mother’s sacrifice and bad weddings

Ghanaian MC Alfred Kabutey Ocansey, popularly known as MC Kabutey, has shared the story of his professional journey, crediting his late mother's resilience and a pair of disappointing weddings as the catalysts for his success. Speaking on The Career Trail on Joy Learning TV and Joy News, the renowned event host reflected on how these personal and observational experiences formed the foundation of his 15-year career. He highlighted that his path was defined by a combination of entrepreneurial initiative and the strong foundational values instilled in him during his upbringing in Accra.

The inspiration for his hosting career began in 2011 after Kabutey witnessed two lackluster wedding ceremonies. Disturbed by the disappointment of the couples and the lack of professional energy at the events, he decided to take initiative despite having no previous experience in the field. He created a Facebook page to advertise his services and was surprised to receive his first booking shortly after. Since that initial step, he has transformed event hosting into a full-time profession, using his story to encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to act on their ideas and fill gaps in the market.

Beyond his career spark, Kabutey paid a heartfelt tribute to his late mother, a civil servant and single parent who worked tirelessly to support him and his brother. To finance their education, she managed multiple ventures, including running a farm and operating a restaurant from their living room. He noted that her influence extended beyond material provision, as she emphasized spiritual growth and ensured a strong connection with God was central to their lives. Though she has passed away, he expressed deep gratitude for the sacrifices she made to give her children a quality life.

His formative years at Pope John Senior High School also played a critical role in his development. Kabutey shared memories of his boarding experience, where he navigated the challenges of student life, including bullying from seniors and the unique living conditions of his year group. It was also during this time that he discovered an interest in hockey, a pursuit influenced by his mother. He concluded by reflecting on the lasting impact of his education and the friendships formed during his school years, which he continues to cherish as he advances in the entertainment industry.
