President John Dramani Mahama has committed to providing a stable electricity supply to the Bright International Industrial Zone within the next three weeks. Speaking during a tour of the industrial complex, the President addressed concerns over power reliability by announcing an immediate upgrade to an overloaded substation currently serving the area. This intervention is designed to prevent operational disruptions and support the growth of manufacturing facilities within the zone, ensuring that industries can maintain uninterrupted production schedules. The President highlighted the expanding industrial footprint at the site, noting the increasing number of manufacturing plants and the significant employment of women, particularly in the textile and garment sectors. To further bolster industrialization, Mahama outlined a broader fiscal strategy under his administration's New Economy Programme. This initiative aims to inject $2 billion annually into high-growth, job-rich sectors, including agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy, to stimulate national economic recovery and job creation. In addition to infrastructure improvements, the President emphasized the government's role in facilitating market access for local manufacturers. He pledged that his administration would actively support Ghanaian industries in leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) to export their products across the continent. This trade support is intended to complement the physical infrastructure being developed to make Ghanaian goods more competitive on the international stage. The visit also served as the backdrop for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Afienya Industrial Park, a project intended to expand the infrastructure available for new industrial ventures. By combining immediate technical fixes, such as the substation upgrade, with long-term capital investment and trade facilitation, the President signaled a comprehensive approach to industrial policy. The three-week timeline for the power restoration remains a critical benchmark for the industries operating within the Bright International Industrial Zone.
