The Ministry of Health has officially handed over a fully furnished health post to the residents of Assin Donkokrom in the Assin North District, marking a significant step in the government’s Free Primary Healthcare initiative. The facility is designed to provide accessible, fee-free medical services at the primary level, directly addressing the health needs of low-income and rural families who often face financial barriers to care. This commissioning reflects President John Mahama’s administration's commitment to transforming the national healthcare sector by ensuring that basic medical services are available to all citizens regardless of their economic status. The new health post is equipped with modern medical technology, including incubators, X-ray machines, and ultrasound machines—equipment typically reserved for larger district hospitals but now brought closer to the community level. Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Health, Mr. George Boadu emphasized that the initiative focuses heavily on disease prevention and health education. By bringing these services into the heart of the Assin North District, the government aims to drastically reduce the distance residents must travel to receive professional medical attention, thereby improving health outcomes and saving lives in emergencies. While local leaders and community members expressed profound gratitude for the new facility, they also highlighted critical areas for future government support. District officials and traditional authorities called for the provision of dedicated accommodation for healthcare personnel to ensure that doctors and nurses can reside within the community and provide round-the-clock service. They stressed that the long-term operational success of the health post depends on both continued government investment in staff welfare and robust community support to maintain the state-of-the-art equipment provided.
