The Achimota Golf Club in Accra is set to host 140 amateur golfers on November 21, 2026, for the fifth edition of the Head of State Invitational Golf Tournament. The event, which honors President John Dramani Mahama, aims to bring together leaders from various sectors to foster national development. President Mahama is expected to attend the tournament, which is being held under the theme, "Driving National Growth Through Leadership, Partnership and Golf."
The tournament attracts a diverse field of players, including international participants from Nigeria, Burundi, and Kenya. According to event coordinator Francis Andoh, who spoke during the launch on November 4, the tournament serves as a platform to support young people through community outreach initiatives managed by the Head of State Foundation. The competition is designed to bridge the gap between sports and social responsibility while providing a high-level networking environment.
Mike Aggrey, a member of the Achimota Golf Club Board of Trustees, emphasized that the invitational offers a unique opportunity for industry leaders and government officials to build rapport outside of formal bureaucratic settings. He noted that past editions have successfully facilitated direct collaborations and policy discussions between ministers and private sector participants. These interactions are seen as vital for creating meaningful connections that contribute to the country's economic progress.
The 2026 edition is supported by a range of high-profile corporate partners, with First National Bank serving as the headline sponsor. BOST Energies has joined as a gold sponsor, alongside other contributors such as Samsung Ghana, Coca-Cola Ghana, and Guinness Ghana. Organisers have invited further sponsorship and participation to ensure the tournament continues to provide opportunities for growth and community impact.
