Commissioner of Police (COP) Lydia Yaako Donkor, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), has launched a nationwide series of meetings to engage with regional police officers. This initiative is designed to assess the current performance of the department and address the various operational challenges faced by personnel across the country. By meeting directly with officers on the ground, the CID leadership aims to streamline investigative processes and ensure that the Ghana Police Service remains responsive to evolving crime trends.
During her engagements, COP Donkor underscored the critical role of modern technology in contemporary policing. She specifically emphasized the integration of digital forensics and advanced intelligence gathering as essential tools for improving the quality and speed of crime investigations in Ghana. The Director-General noted that the shift toward data-driven and technological approaches is a necessity for the department to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal activities, particularly those involving digital platforms.
A key component of this strategic evaluation is the strengthening of institutional ties between the CID headquarters in Accra and regional specialized units. COP Donkor called for significantly improved collaboration with regional cybercrime units to enhance overall efficiency in handling complex cases. While she praised the dedication and hard work of police personnel in their various jurisdictions, she also highlighted the need for better communication channels. She encouraged officers to maintain direct and open communication with their commanders, especially when addressing grievances from the public to foster transparency.
As the tour continues through the remaining regions, the CID headquarters expects to gather comprehensive feedback that will inform future policy decisions and resource allocation. The ultimate goal of the exercise is to build a more robust and professional investigative wing that effectively utilizes both human intelligence and modern digital tools to ensure justice is served efficiently and public trust in the police is maintained.
