Kwaku Fosu Frimpong, a former parliamentary aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on the party's newly elected leadership to implement sweeping internal reforms to regain political momentum. Speaking in the aftermath of a recent delegates conference, Frimpong emphasized that the NPP must modernize its management systems and improve transparency to effectively challenge for power in the 2028 general elections. He stressed that the party’s transition to opposition requires a fundamental shift in how it engages with its grassroots supporters and manages its internal data.
Central to Frimpong’s proposal is the introduction of digital scorecards to monitor activity and engagement levels across all constituencies. He argued that every constituency needs a measurable system to track performance, ensuring that party executives are held accountable for their mobilization efforts. Additionally, he advocated for the creation of a verified membership database linked directly to the Ghana Card. This move, he suggested, would eliminate discrepancies in party records and provide a transparent, tamper-proof foundation for internal voting and resource allocation.
Beyond technical reforms, Frimpong highlighted the need for financial transparency and a more inclusive decision-making structure. He urged the new leadership to provide transparent accounting of party funds to rebuild trust with supporters and donors alike. To ensure the party's long-term viability, he called for the active inclusion of professionals and the youth in the party’s strategic planning processes. According to Frimpong, the NPP must bridge the gap between its national leadership and the grassroots supporters who may have felt disconnected during the previous election cycle.
Looking toward the 2028 elections, Frimpong insisted that a thorough and honest evaluation of the NPP's defeat in the 2024 polls is a prerequisite for any successful comeback. He stated that unity within the party cannot be achieved through rhetoric alone but must be supported by effective, modernized systems that empower members at all levels. As the NPP begins its tenure in opposition under the administration of President John Mahama, Frimpong’s blueprint serves as a call for immediate action to restructure the party’s internal machinery.
