The Kwadaso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has launched an educational initiative to promote constitutional awareness among students at Prempeh College and Methodist Technical School. This engagement, led by the Municipal Director, Ms. Mavis Achiaa, was designed to foster a sense of responsible citizenship and help students understand their roles and responsibilities within Ghana’s democratic framework. By focusing on the youth, the NCCE aims to build a foundation of civic knowledge that will support the long-term stability of the nation’s governance.
During the sessions, Ms. Achiaa emphasized that the 1992 Constitution remains the supreme law of Ghana, serving as the ultimate safeguard for the country's democratic values and individual liberties. She urged the students to study the document diligently, noting that a well-informed citizenry is essential for holding leaders accountable and ensuring the protection of human rights. The discussions also addressed contemporary challenges, particularly the risks associated with digital platforms. Ms. Achiaa warned students about the dangers of misinformation, often referred to as fake news, and cybercrime, encouraging them to maintain high ethical standards and exercise caution while navigating online spaces.
The initiative concluded with the establishment of Civic Education Clubs at both institutions. These clubs are intended to serve as platforms for continuous learning and dialogue, allowing students to engage more deeply with civic issues and participate in community-building activities. By institutionalizing civic education through these clubs, the Kwadaso NCCE hopes to cultivate a generation of patriotic and informed young leaders who are committed to upholding the rule of law and contributing positively to the development of Ghana.
