The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, led by Minister Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, convened a national validation workshop on September 22, 2025, at the GNAT Hall in Accra to finalize the draft of the National Sports Policy 2026. This significant gathering brought together a wide array of stakeholders to review and confirm the strategic programs designed to foster a dynamic sports ecosystem in Ghana. The policy serves as a roadmap to modernize the nation's sports infrastructure and administration, aiming to align local initiatives with the Sports Act 2016 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Key discussions during the workshop, spearheaded by experts such as Dr. Austin Luguterah from the University of Ghana, centered on the transformative power of sports beyond mere recreation. Dr. Luguterah and other participants emphasized the policy's role as a strategic tool for health promotion, youth empowerment, and social inclusion. By refining the draft through collaborative breakout sessions, stakeholders sought to ensure that the document addresses both international competitiveness and the local need for social cohesion and national unity. Minister Kofi Iddie Adams reaffirmed the government's commitment to the legislative success of the policy, noting the urgency of presenting the finalized draft to Parliament. He highlighted that the National Sports Policy 2026 is intended to be more than a document; it is a catalyst for economic development and professional growth within the sports sector. As the workshop concluded, the Ministry expressed confidence that the refined strategies would provide the necessary framework to propel Ghana toward becoming a leading sports nation on the continent.
