The Minister of Youth and Sports, Kofi Adams, has revealed that an influencer and other individuals tied to a group known as Tribe Culture have gone missing after receiving US$610,000 in funds earmarked for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Minister made these revelations during an appearance on TV3’s "Hot Issues," where he admitted that the authorities are currently unable to establish the whereabouts of the individuals or the significant sum of money entrusted to them. This development has sparked immediate concern regarding the financial management and oversight of the country's preparations for the upcoming global football tournament.
According to the Minister, the funds were disbursed to Tribe Culture to facilitate specific promotional or logistical activities related to the 2026 World Cup. However, since the payment was processed, the primary influencer involved and their associates have reportedly cut off communication and become untraceable by government officials. Adams noted that while the funds were intended to support Ghana’s interests and visibility leading up to the tournament, the disappearance of the contractors has left the Ministry in a difficult position as they attempt to recover the public resources.
The situation raises broader questions about the vetting processes used for awarding high-value contracts to influencers and private entities within the sports sector. With the 2026 World Cup representing a major priority for the ministry, the loss of over half a million dollars poses a challenge to the budget and the integrity of the planning process. Law enforcement and investigative bodies are expected to be engaged to track down the missing persons and the funds, as the government faces pressure to ensure that all tournament-related expenditures are fully accounted for.
