The selection committee for the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards, chaired by veteran journalist Kobby Asmah, has concluded its evaluation of entries and submitted its final report to the National Executive. This year’s review involved a meticulous assessment of 327 entries provided by 206 applicants from across the country. Following a rigorous screening process, the committee identified 36 nominees to be honored across various categories, including the prestigious GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year Award.
To maintain the high standards of the awards, the committee utilized a comprehensive 10-point assessment framework to grade the submissions. Each entry was evaluated based on its impact, ethical standards, and technical execution, with a strict qualifying score of 70 percent required for any applicant to be considered for a nomination. This high benchmark ensures that the 30th edition of the awards continues to represent the pinnacle of journalistic achievement in Ghana.
Beyond selecting the nominees, the committee’s report included several critical observations regarding the state of media submissions. The committee recommended that the GJA organize specialized training sessions for journalists to improve the quality of their work and their understanding of award entry requirements. The report also emphasized the importance of strict adherence to submission guidelines, noting that many entries could have scored higher had they followed the prescribed formats and criteria more closely.
The submission of this report marks a significant milestone in the preparations for the 30th GJA Media Awards. With the nominations now in the hands of the National Executive, the association is set to move forward with the final arrangements for the ceremony. The upcoming event is expected not only to celebrate individual excellence but also to encourage a higher standard of professionalism and responsibility within the Ghanaian media landscape.
