The 2026 Tertiary Business Sense Challenge (TBSC) is set for an epic conclusion as the nation’s top academic powerhouses—Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Ghana (UG), and the University of Cape Coast (UCC)—prepare to battle for the national crown. This year’s Grand Finale is particularly significant, as it features three institutions with a rich history of success, each aiming to cement their legacy as the dominant force in business and accounting excellence. With defending champions KNUST facing off against the resilient UG and the returning "original champions" UCC, the stage is set for a historic confrontation involving multiple past titleholders.
Defending champions KNUST enter the final looking to make history by securing back-to-back titles and their third national championship overall. Having previously triumphed in 2022 and 2025, the Kumasi-based institution has demonstrated unparalleled longevity, marking its sixth consecutive appearance in the Grand Finale since 2021. Despite facing stiff competition in the earlier rounds, KNUST’s team of four Level 400 Accounting students showed immense grit, securing narrow victories in the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Coached by former contestants who bring a wealth of institutional knowledge, the team remains a formidable obstacle for any challenger seeking to claim the trophy.
Standing in their way is the University of Ghana, which has turned consistency into a trademark. Since winning their first national title in 2024, UG has remained at the pinnacle of the competition, finishing as runners-up in 2025. Led by Professor Elikplimi Komla Agbloyor, the 2026 squad is primarily composed of Level 300 students who have already proven their mettle by dominating former champions during the knockout stages. After overcoming challenges in the regional rounds, including a victory over UEW, the Legon-based team has regained its momentum and aims to capture a second national title to solidify its status as a premier business institution.
The Grand Finale also marks the return of the University of Cape Coast, the "original champions" of 2019 and 2021. After a two-year absence from the finals in 2024 and 2025, UCC has returned with a vengeance, posting some of the highest scores of the tournament. In the national knockout rounds, they recorded a staggering 106 points while only conceding 36.5 against their opponents. Led by Professor Seyram Kawor and Dr. Bernice Nkrumah-Boadu, the UCC team features a multidisciplinary mix of Level 300 and 400 BCom students. Their return represents a generational link to their first championship, as they seek a third national title to equal their rivals.
As the anticipation builds, the TBSC Grand Finale represents more than just a quiz; it is a showcase of Ghana’s brightest business minds. Whether KNUST achieves the rare back-to-back feat, UG secures its second title in three years, or UCC successfully reclaims its former glory, the 2026 edition promises to be a masterclass in business acumen and academic rigor. The competition highlights the strength of Ghana’s tertiary institutions in preparing students for the complexities of the corporate world, with the ultimate winner taking home the most prestigious academic trophy in the country.
