The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has entered discussions with the Norwegian African Relations Consult (NARC) to establish a comprehensive partnership for international academic exchange. This potential collaboration, which was formalised during a consultative meeting on November 3, 2026, aims to facilitate student and staff mobility between Ghana and Norway while fostering high-impact collaborative research. The initiative reflects a growing trend of Ghanaian universities seeking global partnerships to enhance their research and teaching capacities.
The meeting brought together KNUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Christian Agyare and the Chief Executive Officer of NARC, Joseph Kyei-Boateng. The proposed initiative is expected to draw funding support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). According to the participants, the partnership will focus on capacity-building initiatives that align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting innovations in natural resource management and sustainable technology.
Professor Agyare expressed strong support for the partnership, noting that the initiative aligns seamlessly with KNUST’s current strategic plan to enhance global visibility and academic excellence. He highlighted that the university is particularly interested in leveraging Norwegian expertise to improve local research outcomes and address environmental challenges. By integrating international perspectives into its academic framework, KNUST seeks to provide its students and faculty with exposure to global best practices in science and technology.
As the two institutions move toward a formalised agreement, the partnership is expected to serve as a bridge for cross-continental academic growth. The collaboration is anticipated to yield tangible benefits in technology transfer and sustainable development, further solidifying KNUST’s position as a leading research institution in West Africa. Further details on the specific exchange programs and joint research calls are expected to be announced following the completion of the formal partnership framework.
