King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has accepted an invitation to chair the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards ceremony. The event is scheduled to take place in Accra on November 7, 2026. The King’s acceptance was confirmed during a courtesy visit by the GJA leadership to his palace, where he expressed his commitment to supporting the media’s role in Ghana’s democratic journey. President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend as the Special Guest of Honour, alongside other high-ranking government officials and members of the diplomatic corps.
During the interaction, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II commended the media for its vital contribution to national development and the promotion of accountability. He emphasized that the press remains a cornerstone of a healthy democracy and urged journalists to maintain high ethical standards. The Ga Mantse also proposed a partnership between the GJA and the traditional authority for the upcoming Sacred Crown Awards, suggesting that a unified effort could further elevate the standard of excellence in public service and traditional leadership.
This year’s awards ceremony is being held under the theme, "Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom, and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age." Organizers have received 327 entries from journalists across the country, reflecting a competitive field for the various categories of recognition. The event aims not only to reward individual brilliance but also to address contemporary challenges facing the industry, such as the spread of misinformation and the protection of journalists' rights in an increasingly digital landscape.
