Kennedy Osei Nyarko, the Member of Parliament for Akim Swedru, has launched a comprehensive empowerment initiative providing financial aid and vocational tools to 145 constituents. The programme is designed to bolster local entrepreneurship and provide a pathway for young people to enter the workforce through skilled trades. By targeting diverse groups within the local economy, the MP aims to stimulate commercial activity and reduce unemployment across the Akim Swedru constituency through direct investment in human capital.
The support package is strategically divided among three primary groups of beneficiaries to ensure a broad impact on the local economy. Fifty petty traders received direct financial assistance intended to boost their liquidity and expand their small-scale business operations. Additionally, 60 prospective apprentices were enrolled in training programmes to acquire practical vocational skills, while 35 newly graduated artisans were provided with essential tools and equipment to help them establish their own independent workshops and businesses immediately.
This initiative seeks to address the significant financial and practical barriers that often prevent young artisans and small-scale entrepreneurs from succeeding in the current economic climate. By providing both the initial training and the physical tools required for trade, the MP's office aims to create a sustainable model for economic self-sufficiency. Local residents have noted that such interventions are critical for enhancing the vocational training landscape and ensuring that graduates do not remain idle due to a lack of startup resources after completing their apprenticeships.
