Justin Kodua Frimpong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stepped in to mediate a brewing internal conflict within the party's Ashanti Regional branch. The intervention follows a dispute over the selection process for new regional executive positions, which has caused visible friction among high-ranking party officials in the region. Kodua has reportedly scheduled a meeting with the executives to address the grievances and restore order within the regional hierarchy.
The dispute centers on a petition submitted on October 28, 2026, by a group of senior regional leaders, including the Regional Chairman and various Organisers. The petitioners raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the appointments to newly created or vacant regional roles. To prevent the internal disagreement from escalating further in the public eye, the General Secretary has issued a stern warning to four specific senior executives, directing them to cease all public commentary regarding the petition and the ongoing selection process.
This move by the national leadership aims to preserve stability in the Ashanti Region, which remains a critical stronghold for the NPP. The public nature of the disagreements among the regional organizers and the chairman had threatened to project a sense of disunity within the party. By summoning the COKA-led executive team for a formal meeting, Kodua seeks to provide a controlled environment where the concerns of the petitioners can be heard and resolved without further damaging the party's image through media outbursts.
As the party looks toward its future organizational goals, maintaining internal cohesion remains a top priority for the national secretariat. The outcome of the upcoming meeting between the General Secretary and the Ashanti Regional executives will be critical in determining whether the appointment dispute can be settled through internal mediation. For now, the directive remains in force, and the party's leadership expects all involved members to adhere to established grievance procedures rather than utilizing public platforms for their complaints.
