The Jospong Group of Companies has entered into a strategic partnership with the government of Guinea to overhaul the waste management infrastructure in the capital, Conakry. Signed under the vision of President Mamadi Doumbouya, the agreement tasks the Ghanaian conglomerate with transitioning Conakry's sanitation sector from traditional dumping practices to a modern circular economy model. This initiative is designed to transform environmental challenges into economic growth by focusing on waste recovery and recycling.
The Prime Minister of Guinea, H.E. Amadou Oury Bah, characterized the partnership as a significant step in strengthening the historic ties between Ghana and Guinea. He emphasized that the collaboration represents a self-sustaining African solution to local problems, leveraging regional expertise to address urban sanitation needs. The Prime Minister noted that the project is a testament to the shared history and future cooperation between the two West African nations.
Beyond environmental improvements, the project is expected to provide a substantial boost to the local economy. Guinea's Minister of Sanitation, Aboubacar Camara, described the agreement as a transformative turning point for Conakry, projecting that it will create between 2,000 and 3,000 new jobs. The modernization of the sanitation sector will involve enhanced community participation, ensuring that the new systems are integrated into the daily lives of residents while providing sustainable livelihoods.
This expansion into Guinea marks a major milestone for the Jospong Group as it continues to establish its footprint as a leader in waste management across the African continent. By implementing advanced technologies and circular economy principles, the group aims to create a cleaner, healthier urban environment in Conakry while demonstrating the viability of African-led industrial solutions.
