The Paramount Chief of Jirapa, Naa Di-Naa Donlabong III, has called for a significant shift in Ghana's developmental approach, asserting that progress must start within local communities rather than relying solely on the central government in Accra. Speaking at the official launch of the Anwelle Foundation in the Upper West Region, the traditional leader challenged residents—particularly those living abroad—to leverage their expertise, networks, and financial resources to address pressing local issues like poverty and youth unemployment. He emphasized that local action and community responsibility are essential to filling the resource gaps left by state-led initiatives. The Anwelle Foundation was established with the specific mission to bridge critical gaps in education and livelihood opportunities for rural youth. Its founder and CEO, Frank Anwelle, shared a personal motivation behind the charity, noting that many talented young people in rural areas are held back by a lack of financial support and access to vital information. By creating local pathways to success, the foundation aims to empower the next generation and ensure that geography does not dictate a person's potential or access to a better life. Despite its recent formal launch, the foundation has already begun making tangible impacts within the Jirapa community. Early interventions include providing crucial support to students affected by a devastating dormitory fire and offering vocational training resources to those seeking new skills. Looking ahead, the foundation plans to roll out a specialized automotive apprenticeship program designed to create sustainable employment opportunities directly within the district. These efforts reflect the organization's commitment to practical, local action that yields immediate benefits for the youth. The launch event attracted significant local and international attention, receiving strong endorsement from the Upper West Regional Minister and various community leaders. These officials underscored the importance of collaboration and sustainable support to ensure the foundation's long-term success, while also calling for realistic expectations from the community to ensure the initiative remains viable. By fostering a culture of community responsibility, the Anwelle Foundation seeks to set a precedent for rural development that is driven by local stakeholders and private initiative.
