The Jinijini-Sampa Road project in the Berekum West District of the Bono Region has encountered significant setbacks following the systematic theft of construction materials from the site. Rango Construction Limited, the firm contracted for the project, confirmed that the disappearance of vital materials, particularly gravel, has forced a slowdown in construction activities. This project is a key element of the government’s "Big Push" infrastructure initiative, which aims to improve road networks and regional connectivity across Ghana.
Felix Agyei, the Public Relations Officer for Rango Construction Limited, addressed the issue publicly, highlighting how the theft of gravel is hampering the contractor’s ability to meet daily targets. According to Agyei, these illegal acts do more than just drain resources; they disrupt the engineering schedule and create logistical bottlenecks that are difficult to resolve. He urged local residents and stakeholders in the Berekum West District to take an active role in monitoring the site, stressing that the project's success depends partly on the cooperation and vigilance of the community it is intended to serve.
The road is slated for completion by the end of 2028 and is expected to transform transportation in the Bono Region by providing a reliable link for farmers and traders. However, Rango Construction Limited warned that if the pilfering of materials continues, the project may face further delays beyond the current 2028 deadline. The contractor and local authorities are now looking at ways to enhance security around the site to safeguard the "Big Push" investment and ensure that the vital infrastructure reaches completion without further interruption.
