The Nkwanta North District Assembly has commenced significant filling and levelling works on the Kpassa–Merimeri road in the Oti Region to enhance local transportation and safety. District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Isaiah Kudjoe Dordoe recently conducted a site inspection of the project, which aims to address the deteriorating state of this vital corridor. The intervention is designed to improve accessibility for residents and traders who have long struggled with poor road conditions that often worsen during the rainy season.
The scope of the project includes filling deep potholes, levelling uneven surfaces, and improving drainage systems to combat erosion. These engineering works are essential for reducing vehicle breakdowns and ensuring the road remains passable year-round. According to Mr. Dordoe, the initiative is a response to long-standing concerns regarding rural connectivity, particularly for communities that rely on the road for their daily socio-economic activities and emergency access.
The road improvement is expected to have a transformative impact on the local agricultural economy. By providing a more reliable route to markets, the project will help farmers transport their produce more efficiently and at a lower cost. During his visit, the DCE emphasized that road maintenance is a cornerstone of socio-economic development in the district. He urged residents to cooperate with the construction teams and follow safety protocols to ensure the project reaches a successful and timely completion.
This infrastructure project is part of a broader commitment by the Nkwanta North District Assembly to address developmental challenges across the Oti Region. As works continue, local authorities remain focused on creating a resilient road network that supports the livelihoods of rural residents. The completion of the Kpassa–Merimeri road repairs will mark a significant step forward in the district's efforts to foster regional integration and economic growth.
