The IGP Special Operations Team of the Ghana Police Service has arrested 192 suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations across the Greater Accra and Eastern regions. Conducted between October 2 and October 29, 2026, the month-long exercise targeted individuals allegedly involved in drug-related offences and the illegal possession of firearms. These operations were part of a broader strategy to disrupt criminal networks and enhance public safety in areas identified as hotspots for criminal activity.
The most significant breakthrough occurred in Teshie, where security personnel apprehended 102 suspects in a single coordinated sweep. Other targeted locations within the Greater Accra region included New Town, Dansoman, Weija, Tudu, James Town, Shukura, and Okaishie. The police also extended their operations to Lapaz, Chantan, Odawna, Avenor, and Fadama, alongside various communities in the Eastern region. During these swoops, officers recovered substantial quantities of suspected narcotic substances, various firearms, and live ammunition.
According to official police reports, several key suspects identified during the operations have been transferred to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for further interrogation and profiling. The exhibits recovered, which include both illicit drugs and weapons, have been documented and will serve as evidence in subsequent legal proceedings. The authorities emphasized that these intelligence-led missions are critical for identifying and neutralizing the supply chains of narcotics and illegal weaponry that often fuel violent crime in urban centers.
The Ghana Police Service has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining law and order through proactive policing and the use of specialized units to tackle organized crime. These successful swoops highlight the effectiveness of the Special Operations Team's intelligence gathering and strategic deployment. Moving forward, the police intend to sustain these operations across the country to ensure that both urban and rural communities remain safe from the influence of illegal arms proliferation and the narcotics trade.
