A group of 50 law enforcement officers from the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have completed a specialised artificial intelligence (AI) capacity-building programme in Accra. The initiative, led by IGNITE Social Enterprise in partnership with brAInify, was designed to equip security personnel with advanced digital tools to streamline investigative processes and improve the efficiency of case management.
The training focused on the practical applications of AI in modern law enforcement, with sessions led by international AI specialists. Participants were instructed on how to handle complex tasks such as financial tracing and the identification of digital anomalies within case files. By leveraging AI algorithms, the officers learned to manage large volumes of data and uncover subtle patterns that might be overlooked during traditional manual reviews, thereby increasing the accuracy of their investigations.
Following the completion of the sessions, participants noted the immediate relevance of these new skills to their daily work. The programme concluded with the presentation of certifications to all 50 attendees, marking a significant step towards bridging the digital skills gap within security services in Sub-Saharan Africa. Organisers emphasised that integrating such technology is essential for law enforcement agencies to stay ahead of increasingly sophisticated criminal activities in a digital landscape.
