Maame Efua Houadjeto, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), has responded to a petition filed by her deputy, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey, also known as Abeiku Santana. Addressing the allegations in a formal letter to the GTA Board Chairperson, Houadjeto expressed "surprise and disappointment" over her deputy's claims that she had become inaccessible to the executive team. She firmly rejected the suggestion of a communication breakdown, asserting that she maintains an open-door policy for all staff.
The dispute stems from a petition Aggrey submitted to the sector minister, which highlighted a perceived gap in internal communication and suggested that the current management climate hindered professional collaboration. Houadjeto's rebuttal clarified that she found the allegations inconsistent with the authority's operational standards. While defending her leadership style, she noted that the petition was unexpected given the existing channels for internal dialogue.
In a move to resolve the tension and enhance overall management effectiveness, the CEO proposed several new coordination measures. These include the establishment of regularly scheduled consultations and the implementation of clear escalation procedures for urgent administrative matters. By formalizing these processes, Houadjeto aims to foster a more structured environment for professional consultation and to ensure the executive team remains aligned on key objectives.
The Ghana Tourism Authority's board is expected to review these proposed measures to ensure they facilitate better collaboration within the leadership. As the GTA continues its mandate to promote the country's tourism sector, the resolution of this internal friction is seen as a necessary step toward maintaining organizational stability and ensuring that the management team can focus on their strategic goals without further administrative disruptions.
