The Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH) has inaugurated a new five-member Audit Committee to strengthen corporate governance and institutional accountability. Established under the provisions of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), the committee is designed to provide independent oversight and ensure that the hospital adheres to the highest standards of financial management. This move is part of a broader national effort to improve the efficiency of public institutions and safeguard state resources through more disciplined fiscal behavior.
The committee is chaired by Mr. Thomas Clarkson Adade, a representative from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). The membership also includes experts from the Internal Audit Agency (IAA) and representatives from the hospital's Governing Board, creating a multidisciplinary team capable of providing comprehensive oversight. During the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Aborbi-Ayitey, representing the Director-General of the IAA, urged the committee members to work as strategic partners with management. He emphasized that their role is to provide constructive advice that improves performance and streamlines internal controls rather than merely identifying faults.
In response, the Chief Executive Officer of Ho Teaching Hospital, Dr. Mbroh, welcomed the new committee and assured them of management's full cooperation in all oversight activities. He noted that the administration is committed to operational transparency and that the expertise brought by the committee would be vital in navigating the complex financial and operational challenges of a major tertiary healthcare institution. The formation of this committee is expected to bolster public confidence in the hospital's management and ensure that resources are effectively utilized to enhance patient care across the region.
