Harold Norman, the husband of actress Nana Akua, is set to be arraigned before a court of law on charges of domestic violence. The Ghana Police Service announced that the legal process will move forward once Norman is discharged from the hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is closely monitoring his medical status to ensure he appears for trial as soon as his health permits.
The legal action follows a formal petition filed by Nana Akua on August 20, in which she alleged a pattern of physical, emotional, and economic abuse. According to the police, this is not the first time such issues have been reported, as records indicate prior domestic violence incidents involving the couple. The Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has been tasked with investigating the specific details of the current claims to ensure a robust case for the prosecution.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has strongly condemned the situation, highlighting it as a breach of the Domestic Violence Act and the Children’s Act. Emphasizing that violence against women and children is unacceptable, the Ministry urged victims not to remain silent, as such silence only enables further abuse. They also called for public restraint in sharing graphic digital content to protect the dignity of the individuals involved, particularly the couple's children.
The Ghana Police Service and the Ministry are currently collaborating to provide comprehensive support for Nana Akua and her children. While Harold Norman’s hospital discharge is awaited before the case proceeds to the courtroom, the CID has reassured the public that the investigation will maintain the highest standards of integrity. Law enforcement officials have prioritized this case as part of their broader mandate to combat domestic violence and ensure the safety of vulnerable persons.
