Deputy Minister for Energy, Richard Gyan-Mensah, has issued a directive to GNPC Explorco to accelerate preparations for a significant drilling campaign scheduled to begin within the current quarter. Speaking at the company’s inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM), the Deputy Minister stressed the importance of these upcoming operations in achieving the strategic goals of the national oil company. He delivered the charge on behalf of the Minister for Energy, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, underscoring the high priority the government places on increasing domestic petroleum production.
The call for action highlights the administration's commitment to boosting Ghana's upstream petroleum activities through its commercial subsidiary. GNPC Explorco was established to enable the state to participate more directly as an operator in the oil and gas sector, rather than solely as a regulator or minority partner. Gyan-Mensah emphasized that the successful launch of this drilling campaign is a necessary step in ensuring the subsidiary fulfills its mandate to grow Ghana's energy reserves and provide long-term value to the nation through direct resource management.
As the company prepares for the quarter-one deadline, the Ministry of Energy is closely monitoring the technical preparations and resource allocation required for the mission. The inaugural AGM served as a critical platform for leadership to outline the roadmap for these exploration activities, aligning with the broader energy policies of President John Mahama’s administration. The government expects the drilling campaign to not only enhance domestic production but also to strengthen the technical capacity of Ghanaian professionals within the state-owned oil firm, securing the country's energy future.
