The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that the 161kV Anwomaso-Ahodwo transmission line upgrade project in Kumasi has reached 70 percent completion. This critical infrastructure project is designed to significantly enhance the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission within the Kumasi metropolis and its surrounding communities. While the project is nearing its final stages, the utility provider has indicated that the remaining technical works will require a series of planned power interruptions to ensure the safety of field teams and the integrity of the national grid. To facilitate the final phases of the upgrade, residents and businesses in the affected areas will experience scheduled power outages that are slated to occur on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. GRIDCo has clarified that there will be no planned outages on weekends, allowing for uninterrupted power during those periods. This schedule of intermittent interruptions is expected to remain in place until the project’s targeted completion date on November 29, 2026. The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is expected to publish a comprehensive list of the specific communities and neighborhoods that will be affected by these outages. Both GRIDCo and ECG are urging members of the public to cooperate with the exercise, emphasizing that the temporary inconvenience is necessary for the long-term improvement of the region's energy infrastructure. By upgrading the 161kV line, GRIDCo aims to provide a more stable power supply that can support the growing industrial and domestic demand in the Ashanti Region.
