Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, has received a boost in their preparations for the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship following a footwear sponsorship deal with Shoe Fabriek GH Ltd. The partnership, which involves the provision of custom-designed, Ghana-branded sneakers, was officially cemented on October 23, 2026. This collaboration underscores the growing corporate interest in armwrestling, a sport in which Ghana has consistently excelled at the continental and global levels.
The specialized sneakers were presented to the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) by Mrs. Adelaide A. Abbiw-Williams, the General Manager of Shoe Fabriek. Based in Akropong-Akuapem, the local footwear manufacturer designed the shoes specifically for the athletes to wear during their upcoming campaign in India. Mrs. Abbiw-Williams noted that the sponsorship is intended to enhance the team’s visual identity and professional appearance while also providing a psychological boost to the athletes as they represent the nation.
The sponsorship deal is seen as a significant step in the federation's efforts to secure more corporate partnerships for the sport. By choosing a local manufacturer, the GAF is also promoting the "Made in Ghana" agenda, highlighting the synergy between domestic industry and athletic excellence. Shoe Fabriek, known for producing high-quality footwear for various markets, aims to demonstrate that Ghanaian businesses can provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment for elite sporting competition.
As the Golden Arms prepare for the 2026 World Armwrestling Championship in India, the focus remains on maintaining their status as a dominant force in the sport. The addition of branded footwear is expected to foster a sense of national pride and unity within the squad. With the tournament on the horizon, the federation continues to call for further investment from the private sector to ensure the team is fully equipped to bring home medals and sustain Ghana's reputation on the international stage.
