The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully averted a potential catastrophe on the Accra-Tema Motorway after containing a fire involving a 50,000-litre Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker. ADO I Alex King Nartey reported that while the immediate blaze has been neutralized, the tanker remains on the scene, blocking the motorway and causing significant traffic congestion. Recovery efforts are currently underway with a towing truck to clear the path, but motorists have been advised to expect substantial delays. The swift intervention of the firefighters was critical, as the massive volume of flammable gas posed a severe threat to nearby communities.
In a separate development concerning public safety and the rule of law, the Accra Circuit Court has remanded Torsu Assidam and Kofi Kesse following their arrest for the alleged possession of 500 wraps of suspected Indian hemp. The suspects were apprehended at the Arts Centre in Accra on August 23, 2026, after police acted on a tip-off regarding drug sales in the area. Although the accused admitted ownership of the substances—claiming they were supplied by an accomplice known as "Amando" who is currently at large—the court has deferred their pleas until October 14, 2026, pending forensic analysis of the evidence.
Parallel to these safety and security issues, the Births and Deaths Registry of Ghana has issued a stern reminder to the public regarding mandatory civic responsibilities. Deputy Registrar Seth Kissi Bosompem emphasized that the registration of every birth and death is a legal requirement that assists the state in managing public health and national data. Mr. Bosompem urged families to ensure births are recorded immediately following naming ceremonies and to register deaths during funeral preparations, noting that accurate information on the causes of death is vital for authorities to identify and mitigate emerging health threats.
