The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has shortlisted 19 journalists for the 2026 Ashanti Regional Media Excellence Awards, recognizing outstanding journalistic work produced throughout 2025. The nominations, released on October 19, 2026, precede the main ceremony scheduled for October 24, 2026, at the Longford Royal Events Centre in Kumasi. This year’s theme, "Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI," underscores the association's commitment to maintaining ethical standards and credibility in an era of rapid technological change.
Among those recognized are three journalists from Citi FM and Channel One TV: Doris Lonta, Bright Yeboah, and Towfik Mohammed. Luv FM also saw significant success in the shortlisting phase, with four of its staff members nominated: Clinton Yeboah, Nana Boakye Dankwah Yiadom, Emmanuel Bright Quaicoe, and Mahmud Mohammed-Nurudeen. These professionals are part of a broader group representing various media organizations competing across ten distinct categories, including Community Impact, Health, Environment, and Investigative Reporting.
The awards ceremony serves as a prestigious platform for the Ashanti regional media fraternity to celebrate excellence and reflect on the vital role of journalism in society. By highlighting the work of these 19 individuals, the GJA aims to encourage high standards of reporting and professional accountability. The upcoming event will gather key stakeholders to honor the winners and discuss the evolving landscape of the industry, particularly the intersection of traditional reporting and artificial intelligence.
