The Ghana Investment Promotion Authority (GIPA) has identified 48 ready-to-invest projects in the Upper West Region as part of a strategic push to decentralize investment and stimulate economic growth. Announced during the Upper West Regional Investment Forum, these opportunities focus on key sectors including agriculture, livestock, renewable energy, and tourism. The initiative aims to attract both domestic and foreign direct investment by showcasing the region's abundant arable land and water resources for irrigation.
To enhance the region's competitiveness, the government is offering significant fiscal incentives for prospective investors. Businesses in the agro-processing sector can benefit from a preferential corporate tax rate of 1% for the first five years of operation, which will then increase to 5%. Additionally, the Ghana Free Zones Authority is providing corporate tax holidays and import duty exemptions for export-oriented enterprises. Specific projects highlighted by GIPA officials include the development of an Industrial Park and various renewable energy facilities designed to harness the region's solar potential.
Regional Minister Charles Lwanga Puozuing has urged local stakeholders to move beyond acknowledging the region's potential to actively developing actionable plans supported by reliable data. He emphasized that the development of these projects is essential for attracting credible investors and improving the livelihoods of local communities. Lawra Member of Parliament Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng also called for more aggressive marketing of the region's shea and cereal sectors to capitalize on international demand.
This regional initiative is part of a broader national mapping project launched in 2025 to document investment potential across Ghana. The 48 identified projects are expected to be featured prominently at a major Ghana Investment Forum scheduled for November 2026 in Accra. By focusing on infrastructure development and youth involvement through education, officials hope to transform the Upper West Region into a significant commercial hub for the country.
