The Ministry of Education has announced plans to expand modern composite boatbuilding instruction across technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutes nationwide. Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak revealed this initiative during a graduation ceremony for the inaugural Training of Trainers cohort, held at ProZero Ghana Ltd in Takoradi. The program is designed to align youth skills with the evolving demands of the maritime labor market.
This strategic initiative is a collaborative effort involving ProZero Ghana, the Ghana Employers’ Association, the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET), and the Confederation of Danish Industry, with significant support from the Danish government. By focusing on training specialized instructors first, the program aims to build a sustainable foundation of expertise within the national education system. This move is viewed as a critical step in bridging the historical gap between academic instruction and the practical needs of the maritime industry.
Dr. Apaak emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader government commitment to combat graduate unemployment by providing students with market-ready skills. He highlighted that the ministry is actively working with international partners to continuously refine the curriculum and provide the modern resources necessary for high-quality instruction. Moving forward, the ministry plans to extend this boatbuilding training to a wider range of learners, ensuring that Ghana's vocational education system remains competitive and relevant to modern industrial needs.
