The Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) has successfully extended its Regional Taekwondo Awareness Campaign to the Upper West Region, engaging hundreds of students in the regional capital. Held at the Wa Technical Institute on October 30, 2026, the event drew 315 students from five different schools, marking a significant milestone in the federation’s efforts to decentralize the sport and foster grassroots participation across the country.
The initiative is designed to serve multiple purposes beyond physical exercise. According to the GTF, the primary objectives are to promote taekwondo as a viable sporting discipline, identify untapped athletic talent in the northern belt of Ghana, and instill core values such as discipline, perseverance, and self-confidence among the youth. Educational and sports stakeholders who attended the session emphasized that such programs are critical for the holistic development of students, providing them with structured environments for personal growth and physical fitness.
This latest outreach in Wa follows successful campaigns previously conducted in Kumasi and Cape Coast. To date, the federation’s regional drive has reached more than 1,000 students across the country. By prioritizing grassroots development and ensuring accessibility for all youth, including marginalized groups, the GTF aims to create a sustainable pipeline of athletes who can represent Ghana on the international stage while promoting the sport’s philosophy of respect and mental fortitude.
