The Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) and the Bank of Ghana (BoG) have successfully concluded a nationwide sensitisation campaign focused on the revised Letter of Commitment (LOC) guidelines. This initiative was designed to educate exporters across the country on the critical legal requirements surrounding the repatriation of export proceeds. By engaging directly with businesses in multiple regions, the two institutions sought to clarify the administrative processes necessary for compliant international trade and address specific hurdles faced by the shipping community.
A central objective of the campaign was to ensure that all export earnings are returned to Ghana through the formal banking system within the mandated timeframes. The Letter of Commitment serves as a key regulatory tool used by the Bank of Ghana to track exports and monitor the subsequent foreign exchange inflows. During the various regional sessions, officials from both the GSA and the BoG provided technical guidance on how to navigate the revised guidelines, aiming to reduce compliance challenges that have previously hindered timely repatriation.
The completion of this sensitisation drive marks a significant effort to enhance national economic stability through improved foreign exchange management. By fostering better understanding and adherence to the LOC protocols, the authorities aim to bolster the country’s reserves and ensure more transparent financial transactions within the export sector. Moving forward, exporters are encouraged to maintain strict compliance with these formal banking requirements to support the broader health of the Ghanaian economy.
