Ghana has held its position as the sixth most attractive investment destination on the African continent, according to the latest "Where to Invest in Africa 2026/27" report by Rand Merchant Bank (RMB). The ranking comes as the country shows significant signs of economic recovery, maintaining its standing among Africa's top investment hubs despite global economic shifts. This stability reflects a growing confidence in the nation's economic trajectory as it navigates the post-recovery phase.
The report highlights a robust economic rebound, citing a projected GDP growth rate of 6.0% for 2025. This growth is largely underpinned by strong performances in Ghana’s core sectors, including gold, cocoa, and crude oil. These traditional pillars continue to drive economic momentum, providing the essential export revenues and liquidity required to support the broader economy. However, RMB researchers noted that while these sectors provide a strong foundation, the country must look toward diversification to ensure long-term stability.
Despite the positive growth outlook, the report warns against continued over-reliance on commodity exports, which leaves the economy vulnerable to international price fluctuations. To build greater resilience, RMB suggests that Ghana focus on productive business financing, industrial development, and the strengthening of capital markets. Such structural improvements are deemed necessary to transition the current recovery into a sustainable and diversified economic model that can withstand external shocks.
To maintain its competitive edge, the report urges Ghanaian policymakers to prioritize fiscal discipline and implement sustainable investment strategies. For businesses and investors, the improving economic environment presents new opportunities, particularly for those able to adapt to the evolving landscape. The findings suggest that while Ghana has successfully stabilized its investment appeal, future progress will depend on the ability to reduce commodity dependence and foster a more resilient, industrialized economy.
