The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has officially launched an online bookshop and verification system designed to provide nationwide access to critical legal and government documents. Announced by Managing Director Nana Kwasi Boatey during a press conference on October 19, 2026, the digital platform allows citizens and institutions to purchase Acts of Parliament, the 1992 Constitution, and official gazettes directly from the company’s website. This initiative marks a significant shift toward digital service delivery, ensuring that official publications are accessible to all Ghanaians regardless of their geographic location.
A primary driver for the new service is the removal of logistical barriers for those living outside the capital. Previously, individuals and organizations in distant regions were often forced to travel to Accra to obtain genuine copies of legislation, frequently incurring transportation costs that far exceeded the price of the documents themselves. By integrating a home delivery service into the online platform, GPCL aims to reduce these financial burdens while ensuring that the public has access to authorized, high-quality prints rather than unreliable or unauthorized reproductions.
Beyond the marketplace, the company has introduced an online verification tool specifically aimed at tackling the circulation of fake gazettes. This system enables individuals and corporate bodies to verify the authenticity of documents without the need for a physical visit to GPCL offices. Mr. Boatey highlighted that this feature is particularly crucial for resolving disputes regarding publishing dates, such as those related to election notices, which often require precise and verifiable timelines to be legally binding.
The launch represents a broader strategy by GPCL to leverage technology to modernize its operations and expand its reach. According to the Managing Director, the company is also working on further enhancing electronic access to government publications as part of its ongoing digital transformation. By streamlining the purchasing process and providing tools for verification, GPCL expects to improve transparency and public engagement with Ghana's legal and legislative frameworks.
