The Ghana Publishing Company Limited (GPCL) has officially launched an E-Bookshop and Gazette Verification Platform to modernize access to legal documents and curb the circulation of counterfeit materials. Announced on October 19, 2026, the digital initiatives aim to provide individuals and institutions with a reliable method to confirm the authenticity of gazettes and purchase official legal publications from any location. The platform is designed to eliminate the need for the public to visit physical offices to verify documents.
Managing Director of GPCL, Nana Kwasi Boatey, emphasized that the new system is a direct response to the increasing prevalence of fake gazettes and the illegal printing of Ghana’s Acts. He issued a stern warning that only GPCL possesses the legal mandate to print and sell the country's laws. According to Boatey, unauthorized printing and selling of these documents constitute a criminal offense. The company has already initiated enforcement measures, including arrests and prosecutions, to deal with those found manufacturing or distributing unauthorized copies of state documents.
The online verification system allows users to cross-reference gazettes against official records in real-time. This functionality is expected to be particularly beneficial in resolving legal and administrative disputes that frequently arise regarding the precise publication dates of official notices. By providing digital access to authentic legal publications through the e-bookshop, GPCL seeks to streamline service delivery and ensure that the public has ready access to accurate, government-sanctioned information.
This digital transition marks a significant step in GPCL’s efforts to strengthen public confidence in official government publications. By leveraging technology to secure the integrity of the nation's laws, the company aims to protect its intellectual property while making government records more accessible. Management indicated that these platforms are part of a broader strategy to enhance institutional efficiency and ensure the official gazette remains the undisputed source of truth for legislative and administrative announcements in Ghana.
