The Ghana Police Service has cautioned motorists to verify traffic violation notices issued under the TraffiTech-GH automated enforcement system to avoid falling victim to fraudulent schemes. This warning, issued by Commissioner of Police (COP) Grace Ansah-Akrofi, comes as the service utilizes the digitized system designed to automate the enforcement of road traffic laws across the country. Motorists are urged to exercise vigilance and follow specific authentication steps before proceeding with any fine payments.
According to the police, all legitimate Electronic Notices of Violation (ENV) will be transmitted using the official sender ID "GPS-MTTD." Drivers who receive these notifications are advised to verify the details on their violation tickets, which should include access to video evidence or images of the alleged infraction. This transparency is intended to ensure that the enforcement process remains credible and that road users are not misled by impersonators or phishing attempts.
For the payment of fines, the police have specified that transactions should only be conducted through authorized channels to prevent financial loss to fraudsters. Official payments must be made through the National Investment Bank (NIB) payment portal or by utilizing the USSD code 7100#. COP Ansah-Akrofi strongly cautioned the public against sending money to any personal mobile money numbers, as the official system does not utilize private accounts for revenue collection.
The TraffiTech-GH initiative is part of a broader effort by the Ghana Police Service to enhance road safety and ensure greater compliance with traffic regulations through technology. By automating the detection of offenses, the service aims to reduce human intervention and improve the efficiency of road policing. Motorists are encouraged to cooperate with the new system and report any suspicious payment requests to the authorities to help maintain the integrity of the enforcement program.
